Students learned about the artist Claude Monet and watched a video on his life and artwork. 

Day 1

Students layered tissue paper pieces with watered down white glue on 9×12” tagboard, to create the water and tree background.

To do this, holding the paper horizontally, students “painted” a thin layer of glue/water mixture ( I made a bowl of this ahead of time using just regular white school glue (Elmer’s) and water)  in the top corner section of their paper. Then they picked up one piece at a time of pre-cut green or yellow tissue paper (that was cut ahead of time into small 2”x2” squares with their sticky paintbrush. Then placed the tissue on the glued area of the paper and then brushed a little more glue on top to smooth and flatten it down. They repeated the above steps and overlapped tissue as they filled in the top half of their paper.

Then they did the same thing for the bottom half using blue and purple tissue squares.

Day 2

Students glued on their pre-cut photo, then glued a pre-cut bridge made from brown construction paper to go over their lily pond, drew oval lily pads with green oil pastel, and added white and pink dots with their fingers dipped in tempera paint to create lily flowers on top!

I LOVE how they turned out!!
